The US vice president dropped a stun grenade on European Union elites at the Munich Security Conference on Friday.
JD Vance's historic speech lambasted smug EU apparatchiks for the threat they themselves pose to freedom in Europe.
Attendees – members of the EU's military and political elite – had expected a polite speech full of nostrums about President Trump's plans to end the conflict in Ukraine; instead, Vance delivered a stunning admonishment – akin to Jesus' rebukes of the Pharisees – warning that the greatest threat to Europe comes not from outside forces, but from an "enemy within."
[T]he threat that I worry the most about vis-a-vis Europe is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not any other external actor. ... [W]hat I worry about is the threat from within, the retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America. – JD Vance
Indeed, Vance's speech was an appeal to the historic values and sacred principles of freedom shared among the nations of the west. It was a call for Europe, as well as the United States – still reeling from the damage wrought by the Biden-Harris regime, to undo the shackles of censorship, social control and open borders.
Despite Vance's fundamental appeal, European elites are reacting with indignation and displeasure at what many around the world are calling "a speech for the ages."
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius whined about the address, saying it was "not acceptable":
"If I understood him correctly, [Vance] compares the condition of Europe with the condition that prevails in some authoritarian regimes," the minister said. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is not acceptable. This is not acceptable. This is not the Europe where I live."
Ex-adviser to globalist Tony Blair, John McTernan described JD Vance's talk about free speech as "monstrous" and "insulting."
"It's extraordinary to me he wants to come to Europe and start lecturing the UK on which laws we should have. Deeply, deeply insulting!"
A nervous Donald Tusk, Poland's current leftist prime minister, urged European players to revise their modus operandi after Vance's address.
"Europe urgently needs its own plan of action concerning Ukraine and our security, or else other global players will decide about our future. Not necessarily in line with our own interest. This plan must be prepared now. There's no time to lose."
Sky News Australia reacted with more balance pointing out that Vance's speech was not a rebuke for the sake of rebuking, but a sincere call to Europe to mend its ways. The media outlet described the purpose as "an intervention":
"Yes, it was an intervention like you might do with a family member with an addiction problem only here the family member wasn't an uncle or an aunt or a son with a drinking problem or a nasty coke habit, but instead it was Europe from which our shared Western Civilization sprung [sic] but which has lately developed its own terrible addiction to censorship, third world migration, and social control."
While Europe's elites complained about the dose of reality Vance administered, populists around the world applauded it. British Reform UK politician and member of parliament Rupert Lowe, for example, called it a delivery of "Truth, after truth, after truth."
Indeed, Vance spoke frankly about recent examples in Europe when the state has cracked down on civil liberties against the people, emphasizing that such actions are reflective of Soviet-style, anti-democratic tactics.
He pointed to the British government's charging a 51-year-old physiotherapist and an army veteran, Adam Smith-Connor, "with the heinous crime of standing 50 meters from an abortion clinic and silently praying for three minutes" for his aborted baby son.
Vance made clear, for anyone thinking this is "a one-off crazy example of a badly written law being enacted against a single person," by citing the Scottish government's recent distribution "of letters to citizens whose houses lay within so-called safe access zones, warning them that even private prayer within their own homes may amount to breaking the law."
He referred to the Romanian state's "straight-up" canceling of the presidential election of anti-establishment candidate Calin Georgescu in December, "based on the flimsy suspicions" of "Russian disinformation infecting" the outcome.
Vance said he was appalled that "a former European commissioner went on television recently and sounded delighted that the Romanian government had just annulled an entire election," also warning that "if things don't go to plan, the very same thing could happen in Germany, too."
Vance leveled a double whammy in one masterstroke against the European establishment's fixation on climate control, as well as its recent criticisms of Elon Musk's X posts encouraging the European people's sense of liberty. The vice president said, not without measure of characteristically American humor,
"[I]f American Democracy can survive ten years of Greta Thunberg’s scolding, you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk."
MASS MIGRATION
Vance acknowledged that the "most pressing" and "urgent" issue facing the nations assembled at the conference is "mass migration," alluding to the terrorist attack in Munich the day before which injured dozens of people.
Vance did not let the attendees off the hook for their role in the assault, spelling out the the truth of the origin of mass immigration in one fell swoop:
"[Mass migration] didn’t materialize in a vacuum. It’s the result of a series of conscious decisions made by politicians all over the continent and others across the world over the span of a decade."
"How many times must we suffer these appalling setbacks before we change course and take our shared civilization in a new direction?," he asked.
Despite the dire examples, Vance, a Catholic convert, gave some hopeful news:
"[T]he good news is that I happen to think your democracies are substantially less brittle than many people apparently fear, and I really do believe that allowing our citizens to speak their mind will make them stronger still."
'THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE MATTERS'
Vance ended his speech by encouraging European leaders to overcome their fear of the people's voice by heeding the words of a great European saint.
"To believe in democracy is to understand that each of our citizens has wisdom and has a voice, and if we refuse to listen to that voice, even our most successful fights will secure very little. As Pope John Paul II, in my view, one of the most extraordinary champions of democracy on this continent or any other one, said, 'Do not be afraid.'"
"We shouldn't be afraid of our people, even when they express views that disagree with their leadership," he said.
IN PRAISE OF VANCE
The Internet was flooded with praise of Vance's address from people all over the world, expressing support and gratitude for his words.
Prominent Polish writer and journalist Kristian Kratiuk posted:
I know that speeches are just speeches. But it is hard to believe that the Vice President of the United States generally speaks in such language and draws attention to such facts that we have been raising on our side for years. ... It is therefore not surprising that the Eurocrats listening to him became furious. ... [H]alf a year ago, few people dreamed that we would be able to hear such a speech. Heck, half a year ago, it could have simply been banned from Facebook.
Other remarks from various countries included the following:
As someone from Scotland and a lawyer to boot, I can confirm that the increasingly Orwellian approach of both the UK and Scottish Governments is completely terrifying.
As a German … J D Vance's speech gave me a sense of relief. He said what I'm sometimes afraid to say.
As a French i can tell you that ending a speech with "God bless you all!" is enough to make most EU leaders furious
As an Italian living in France, I have enjoyed every single word of the 20 minutes speech of J.D. Vance. I was so happy and relieved of finally hearing somebody call out the EU and the countries leaders for what they turned Europe into in the last 15+ years!
As a German I'm very thankful for him standing up for us.
In our home, we were jumping up and down in our European seats because of JD's speech. Make the west great again.

From Norway. Love his speech USA we need you.
Canada needs to listen to Vance.
Americans were no less admiring of one of their own with one patriot posting on X:
JD Vance didn’t just give a speech in Munich, he threw down the gauntlet. For too long, we’ve had leaders who were more concerned with virtue-signaling to global elites than standing up for the core principles of democracy. But Vance? He walked into that room, looked Europe’s ruling class in the eye, and called out their hypocrisy. And they weren’t ready for it.
The vice president fired a shot, albeit a verbal one, akin to the opening shot of the battles of Lexington and Concord that resulted in the creation of the United States of America and a re-routing of history.
His speech may serve as a prelude to declarations of independence around the world on personal and national levels.
It may also inspire Americans to renew their commitment to their homeland and to those sacred principles the revolutionaries fought and died for almost 250 years ago.

Editor's note:
HOW SOULS AND LIBERTY WILL MOVE FORWARD THE NEXT FOUR YEARS
There can be no doubt we have witnessed an extraordinary moment in the history of the United States and the world. The election of Donald Trump to a second Presidential term is a great victory for Christian patriots, but it is not a complete or final victory. Rather, it is a reprieve from the ceaseless assaults on life, liberty and faith we have had to endure for four years.
Donald Trump is president once again, and his decisions, Cabinet selections, and force of personality are shaping the United States and the world in ways we could only dream of.
We have a Heaven-sent opportunity to step up and ensure this victory is not merely a one-off, but the first of many and the foundation of a lasting legacy of patriotic, Christian, pro-family policies.
Souls and Liberty will be part of that effort, but we cannot do it without you. It will require reporting and activism of which YOU can be a part.
Can you step up and support us? Just once – a one-time donation is very valuable. Or, better yet, support us every month with a recurring donation. Thank you, and may God bless you.

America and the world are waking from their stuperous fear of the dangerously autheritarian Left. It is as if the world has been given the courage to proclaim that the emperor has no clothes.
